BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Jack Quinn scored on a power play in the third period and assisted on two other goals for the Sabres in a 4-2 victory against the Detroit Red Wings in goaltender Colten Ellis’ first NHL game Wednesday night at KeyBank Center.
Jason Zucker, Tyson Kozak and Josh Doan also scored, Ryan McLeod and defenseman Connor Timmins each had two assists, and Buffalo (3-4-0) got 2 saves from the 25-year-old Ellis, claimed off waivers from the St. Louis Blues before the start of the season. Coming off a loss Monday night in Montreal, the Sabres extended their home winning streak to three games.
J.T. Compher and Emmitt Finnie scored for the Red Wings (5-2-0), who remained tied with the Canadiens atop the Atlantic Division standings after snapping a five-win streak. South Buffalo native Patrick Kane was scratched with an upper body injury.

Concluding an early stretch of playing seven of its first nine games at KeyBank Center, the Sabres host their rival Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday night in the opener of a home-and-home series.
Saturday night’s game at Scotiabank Centre will start at 5 p.m., moved up to avoid conflict with Game 2 of the World Series.
