BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen has reported to training camp with a lower-body injury that could limit his practice participation in preseason.
“The imaging is clean, which is the good news,” general manager Kevyn Adams said Wednesday. “So just trying to do some rehab and figure out exactly how to get him over the hump. …
“He’s kind of in that day-to-day mode. It could be a little longer. We’ll now probably more over the next few days where he’s at. But it’s encouraging over, I’d say, the last three or four days.”
Adams added that “there’s no alarms right now saying that it’s a significant injury. There was a tweak that he just didn’t feel great. So we just have to make sure that we protect ourselves.”
The Sabres did sign veteran goaltender Alexander Georgieve last week to add depth at the position behind NHL backup Alex Lyon, presumed Rochester Americans starter Devon Levi, and prospects Scott Ratzlaff and Topias Leinonen.
The Sabres will conduct their first on-ice practices Thursday, and being preseason games Tuesday night at Columbus.
