Sabres’ Director of Player Development on Leave Following DWI

Adam Mair has been placed on administrative leave from the Buffalo Sabres. This placement comes after a DWI arrest on September 4th, 2025. Mair has been on the Sabres staff since 2015 and officially the Director of Player Development since 2021.

What We Know Now

 According to WGRZ, Mair had a 0.2% BAC when arrested in Pittsford, New York. Mair faces Leandra’s Law charges due to three children being in the car when it allegedly was involved in a rear end collision on September 4th, 2025. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Charges charged Mair with three felonies and three misdemeanors. Charges include aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child in the vehicle and endangering the welfare of a child.

The Sabres officially put Mair on administrative leave on Thursday, September 11th, 2025. a statement was provided from Nicole Hendricks, the vice president of Communications: “We are aware of the situation involving Adam Mare. He has been placed on administrative leave. We have no further comment at this time.”

At this time there is no reporting on a comment from Mair himself.

Mair’s Playing and Employment History

Mair played 12 seasons in the NHL after being drafted 84th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1997. He also played for the Los Angeles Kings before joining the Buffalo Sabres, where he spent the majority of his career from 2002 to 2010. Over the course of his NHL tenure, Mair appeared in 556 regular season games, tallying 114 points and 829 penalty minutes. He also played in 40 playoff games, including multiple postseason runs with the Sabres during the mid-2000s.

After retiring from the NHL, Mair transitioned into player development and coaching roles within the Buffalo Sabres organization. He was hired in 2015 as a player development coach, working closely with prospects to support their growth on and off the ice. In 2020, he served as an assistant coach for the Sabres’ AHL affiliate, the Rochester Americans. Mair returned to the Sabres in 2021 as Director of Player Development, overseeing the development staff and managing the progress of the team’s young talent.
