New York Rangers Veteran Forward Out Weeks

December 21, 2025 by Last Word On Hockey

The New York Rangers have received an unwanted present just before Christmas. News emerged that veteran forward and team captain J.T. Miller is injured. He’ll be out on a week-to-week basis according to head coach Mike Sullivan.

A league source said Miller is going to be out week-to-week, but his candidacy for the Olympics won’t be jeopardized.

New York Rangers Captain J.T. Miller Injured and Out Weeks

Miller suffered an upper-body injury after getting a hard open-ice check from Philadelphia Flyers defender Nick Seeler. This hit happened in the third period and Miller was upended onto the ice. This is the second time that Miller will miss time due to an upper-body ailment. He missed a pair of games at the end of November. Some reports said that Miller may have aggravated that injury against the St Louis Blues.

The 32-year-old has 10 goals and 12 assists for 22 points in 35 games so far this season. Miller has played for the Rangers, Tampa Bay Lightning, and the Vancouver Canucks across his 14-year NHL career. The East Palestine, Ohio native is averaging 20 minutes, 46 seconds of ice time so far this campaign. He has a Corsi for of 54.3 and a relative Corsi of 6.3.

Miller has 270 goals and 461 assists for 731 points in 906 career games. New York originally drafted him in the first round, 15th overall in the 2011 NHL Draft.

What It Means

The Rangers captain has done well in his second stint with the club since coming over in the middle of last season from the Vancouver Canucks.

Miller has been one of the more consistent players on a team that has struggled to find consistency so far this campaign. He’s reformed his partnership with veteran Mika Zibaneajd this season.

New York has been a solid team on the road but has felt the pain of playing at Madison Square Garden. The Blueshirts have been more consistent at MSG as of late, but it’ll need to get more home victories to get some momentum going.
