The Detroit Red Wings announced that they have traded defenceman Mark Pysyk to a one-year contract. The deal is worth $850,000.00. He will beome a free agent again next summer.

Mark Pysyk Signs with Detroit Red Wings
Mark Pysyk was one of the veteran additions Buffalo Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams got in the 2021 off-season . Adams had been talking about building a core with their young players and bringing experienced players to help was a must. Now, Pysyk has done what he could to help the team – and he hasn’t been all that bad. But his time with the Sabres comes to an end – again. He heads to Detroit where he will have much the same role with the Red Wings.
Pysyk might seem like a new face to younger fans but he started his career in Buffalo. The 30-year-old was drafted 23rd overall by the Sabres in 2010 and spent his first three years with the team. In June 2016, Pysyk was traded to the Florida Panthers, with whom he stayed for four seasons.
In October 2020, he signed with the Dallas Stars as a free agent and only played 36 games with the team due to injuries. His return to Buffalo was announced on July 28, 2021, when Pysyk signed a one-year deal with the team that started his career.
Throughout his 10-year NHL career, Pysyk has played 521 games for the Sabres, Stars and Panthers. He made the playoffs only once, during the 2020 playoff bubble with the Panthers, playing all four games of the qualifying round. Florida lost the series in Game 4 against the New York Islanders.
What This Means For The Future
Pysyk is a good guy and was a good presence in the locker room. The Sabres liked him and he was good for the games he played for them. However, they’re in the middle of a rebuild and trying to pile up as many assets as they can. That means they need to make a few sacrifices along the way. Buffalo will have to look to return to the playoffs with their 2022 summer additions and those don’t include Pysyk. Instead, he will be looking to help the division rival Detroit Red Wings make the playoffs.
