Chicago Blackhawks Sign Young Star to Massive Extension

August 21, 2025 by Last Word On Hockey

The Chicago Blackhawks have signed one of their young, potential superstar forwards to a new deal. No, not Connor Bedard, it is Frank Nazar that signs a new contract extension with the club today. The deal is for seven years, and carries an average annual value of a little less than $6.6 million. Furthermore, he was still under contract for the 2025-26 Season. His entry-level contract and its $950K cap hit was set to run out after this upcoming campaign. This is a big deal for the Hawks, and by the end of the contract, could represent great value from a team perspective.

Frank Nazar Signs Contract Extension to Stay in Chicago Until 2032-33

Nazar was drafted by Chicago 13th overall in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. He had played with the USNDT before moving on to the University of Michigan Wolverines. His last year in Michigan was a sign he was ready for the leap to the professional ranks, as he recorded 41 points in 41 games played. Also, he played at the 2024 World Junior Championships, where he recorded eight assists in seven games. He debuted for Chicago at the end of the 2023-24 campaign, playing in three games.

Last year, was his first full professional hockey season. He split time between the NHL and the AHL with the Rockford Icehogs. He was able to showcase he speed, skill, and dynamic playmaking at both levels. Moreover, he did really well in Rockford, with 24 points in 21 games. His 12 goals, 14 assists, and 26 points for Chicago in 53 games, was also nothing to shake a stick at.

What Does This Mean for Chicago and Nazar

The move makes sense for Chicago to sign him before he really explodes. Over the course of the contract, he’s going to get plenty of opportunity with Bedard. The chances the duo get together on the power play, could really develop both of their games, and boost production. He played with Tyler Bertuzzi a lot last year, as well as with Bedard at times. As a young centre, taking nearly 400 faceoffs, despite the 44% win rate, will do wonders for his development down the road. Chicago has already given him plenty of top-six time. It seems just a matter of time before he helps drive the Hawks offence, along with the other young stars they are trying to develop.
