Ohio to face Georgia Southern in 2023 Myrtle Beach Bowl

The ‘Cats look to set a program record with a victory over the Eagles.

The Ohio Bobcats (9-3, 6-2 Mid-American Conference) head southeast for a showdown against the Georgia Southern Eagles (6-6, 3-5 Sun Belt) in the inaugural bowl meeting between the two squads.

The Myrtle Beach Bowl appearance by both squads will also be their first in the brief history of the game, which commenced in 2020.

With a win over the Eagles, Ohio can reach a major program milestone by recording double-digit wins in back-to-back seasons for the first time in program history.

If Ohio can reach ten wins in the last two seasons, it will be a tale of two truly different teams. The Bobcats were much more offensively oriented in 2022, while in 2023 it has been the defense leading the way with the fifth-ranked scoring defense in the FBS, allowing just 15.4 points per game.

Georgia Southern transitioned to the FBS in 2014, and looks to build on its 2-1 record in bowl games against MAC foes. In 2015, the Eagles soared above the Bowling Green Falcons in the GoDaddy Bowl 58-27, securing its first bowl win in team history in the process.

Georgia Southern beat the Eastern Michigan Eagles 23-21 in the 2018 Camellia Bowl, but the MAC’s Buffalo Bulls flipped the script on Georgia Southern four years later in the 2022 edition of the game by the same score in a win.

The game is set to take place at Brooks Stadium in Conway, South Carolina, on the campus of Coastal Carolina University.

The game will be seen on the ESPN network, including ESPN and ESPN+, with kickoff set for Saturday, December 16, at 11 a.m. Eastern time.
