Last weekend brought perhaps the biggest upset of the season, with South Carolina dealing a big blow to SEC East favorite Georgia, one of the first losses this year for a true College Football Playoff contender. We’ll see if College Football Week 8 can deliver more of those moments.
On paper, there aren’t a ton of huge threats to the top tier of teams. In the Big Ten, Ohio State travels to a Northwestern team with a top defense and one of the worst Power Five offenses, while Wisconsin has what should be an easy trip to Illinois.
Oklahoma hosts rebuilding West Virginia, LSU has a trip to Mississippi State, and Alabama brings in rival Tennessee. The Vols are huge underdogs, but are coming off of a nice SEC win over MSU. ACC favorite Clemson has a trip to Louisville, which has looked better than anyone really expected in its first year post-Bobby Petrino.
Other fun match-ups include Florida at South Carolina, Oregon at Washington, Temple at SMU, Baylor at Oklahoma State, Arizona State at Utah, and this week’s College GameDay game, Michigan at Penn State.
A wild Week 7 really shook up our staff pick standings:
1. Stephen Driscoll: 221-56
2. Andrew McCarty: 219-58
T-3. Dan Lyons: 218-59
T-3. Tzvi Machlin: 218-59
5. Alek Arend: 217-60
6. Matt Hladik: 215-62
7. Chris Rosvoglou: 213-64
8. Andrew Holleran: 212-65
9. Matt Lombardi: 210-67
This week, our biggest splits come in the games between NC State and Boston College, Iowa State and texas Tech, TCU and Kansas State, Oregon and Washington, Temple and SMU, and that big Michigan at Penn State game.
Things kick off tonight, with UCLA at Stanford out in the Pac-12.
Here are our picks for College Football Week 8:
Every week, we pick each game involving Power Five and other Top 25 programs. Check back to see how the contest, which often comes down to the final slate of games, shakes out.
