The Spun’s 2019 College Football Staff Picks: Week 7

June 22, 2020 by The Spun Leave a Comment

LSU quarterback Joe Burrow celebrates huge college football victory against Texas. The Tigers are now No. 1 in the AP Poll this week.

After a Group of Five game between Appalachian State and UL Lafayette opened things on Wednesday night, we’re getting into the swing of things in the Power Five leagues as College Football Week 7 continues tonight. We have some intriguing ACC and Pac-12 action, before a fun Saturday of games.

Tonight, Syracuse travels to NC State in a battle of 3-2 squads that are very much still trying to figure things out. Friday night brings us No. 20 Virginia at Miami, and a Colorado trip to No. 11 Oregon.

Saturday delivers a few huge matchups. We’ve had some pretty lean Saturdays, but this one should bring plenty of excitement.

No. 6 Oklahoma vs. No. 11 Texas headlines the early slate, in the annual Red River Showdown.

The mid-afternoon slate should be fun, with No. 1 Alabama traveling to No. 24 Texas A&M, No. 2 Clemson hsoting Florida State, No. 8 Wisconsin in what could be a slugfest against Michigan State, and even a pivotal AAC game featuring newly ranked No. 25 Cincinnati at Houston.

At night, we get No. 9 Notre Dame vs. USC, A Top 20 battle between No. 10 Penn State and No. 17 Iowa in Iowa City, Minnesota looking to stay undefeated against Nebraska, and perhaps the day’s best game: No. 5 LSU vs. No. 7 Florida, fresh off a huge win against Auburn.

We’re six weeks in to our annual staff picks contest, and things remain tight pretty tight.

1. Dan Lyons: 198-49
T-2. Stephen Driscoll: 197-50
T-2. Tzvi Machlin: 197-50
4. Andrew McCarty: 196-51
T-5. Matt Hladik: 195-52
T-5. Alek Arend: 195-52
7. Andrew Holleran: 193-54
8. Chris Rosvoglou: 190-57
9. Matt Lombardi: 187-60

The biggest splits for our staff this weekend: Syracuse at NC State, Mississippi State at Tennessee, and Nebraska at Minnesota.
