The regular season comes to an end on a Thursday night at CBA.

The Syracuse Orange’s regular season is coming to an end with their annual Thursday night meeting with the Boston College Eagles.

Coming off their worst performance of the year in their loss to Virginia Tech over the weekend, the Orange have dropped to No. 16 in this week’s media poll while the Eagles are holding steady at No. 2. ‘Cuse has lost seven straight meetings with BC going back to the 2021 national title game.

This year’s game will be played at Christian Brothers Academy at 7 PM on ACC Network Extra.

Scouting Boston College

There’s really no sugar-coating this one. It’s been very apparent all season that easily the two best teams in the country are Boston College and No. 1 North Carolina, who beat the Eagles head-to-head a couple weeks ago. It’s going to be a Herculean task for ‘Cuse to remain competitive in this game, let alone win it.

BC has the nation’s No. 1 ranked scoring offense (18.27), the No. 2 ranked scoring defense (7.20) and the No. 8 ranked draw control unit by percentage (62.4). Their strengths are everywhere and they more or less don’t have any weaknesses.

They have an incredible three-headed monster on offense in Rachel Clark (71G, 18A), Emma LoPinto (56G, 23A) and Mckenna Davis (17G, 55A). Clark is third in the country in goals per game (4.73), and Davis is second in the country in assists per game (3.67). All three are in the top 23 nationally in points per game: Clark (6th, 5.93), LoPinto (15th, 5.27), Davis (23rd, 4.80).

Davis, whose been one of the best passers in the country for years now, pulls the strings and she’s surrounded by a bevy of teammates who snipe the back of the net. Clark, LoPinto, Molly Driscoll (30G, 13A) and Mia Mascone (23G, 18A) have combined for 180 goals and a 52 shooting percentage this season.

Shea Baker (29CT, 24GB) and Lydia Colasante (20CT, 23GB) lead their No. 2 scoring defense. Baker is a true, lockdown defender, and if she’s tasked with guarding Emma Ward, the young ‘Cuse offense might have to find a way past BC without the usual services of their graduate student leader.

Goalie Shea Dolce (120SV) is in the conversation for best backstop in the country, and her numbers reflect that with a 7.35 GAA and a 53.6 save percentage. She ranks second nationally in both categories.
