The veteran leads the young Mystics
Syracuse Orange women’s basketball alum Brittney Sykes is having a strong 2025.
After helping Roses BC win the inaugural Unrivaled championship, Sykes is off to a career-best start for the Washington Mystics. Through the first six games of the season, Sykes is 4th in the WNBA in scoring, averaging a career-best 21.7 ppg.
The 3-4 Mystics team was not expected to be in playoff contention, especially after the loss of 1st-round pick Georgia Amoore, but so far they have gotten off to a surprising start. Sykes is leading the way playing 33.1 minutes and averaging 4.5 assists per game=both career highs.
While Sykes’ field-goal percentage is down, Brittney is getting to the foul line. Through the first 7 games, Sykes is averaging 11.2 free throw attempts per game and is converting them at a 82.1 %.
