
Orange look to punch tickets to Eugene
The Syracuse Orange 24-25 athletics season is winding down and track and field is one of three sports still competing.
This week, 12 Syracuse track athletes head to Jacksonville, Florida to compete in the NCAA East Region. These athletes will look to finish among the top 12 in their event and advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene next month. Let’s see which Orange will be competing and where they currently rank in the East Region….
The action gets started on Wednesday (streaming on ESPN+) as Emanuel Joseph (31st) will be in Heat 6 in the 110m hurdles. Xayvion Perkins (33rd) will be in Heat 1 in the 400m hurdles and in both hurdles events, the top 3 in each heat and six fastest times will advance to Friday’s quarterfinal. A trio of Orange will be in the 10k on Wednesday night. Sam Lawler (13th), Assaf Harari (20th), and Perry Mackinnon (38th) will be looking to finish in the top 12 and advance to the final in Eugene.
The women take to the track on Thursday. Heidi Demeo (77th) will be in Heat 1 in the 1500m where the top 5 in each heat and four fastest times will advance to Saturday’s quarterfinal. Iaunia Pointer (26th fastest time) will be in Heat 6 of the 200m, where the top 3 in each heat and six fastest times will advance to Saturday’s quarterfinal. Three Orange women will be in the 10K: Emma Eastman (8th), Rylie Lusk (15th) and Savannah Roark (21st) as they look to finish in the top 12 and earn their spot in Eugene.
Syracuse’s final two competitors- Julian Franjieh (23rd) and Solomon Holden-Betts (37th) will compete in the 3000m steeplechase on Friday. where the top 3 in each heat and three fastest times will advance to Eugene. Holden-Betts is in Heat 1 and Franjieh will be in Heat 3.
