The Orange are up to three medals and looking for more this week

The action at the Tokyo Olympics heads into the final week and here’s what you may have missed from former Syracuse Orange athletes competing in Japan.

Katie Zaferes helped the US mixed triathlon team to a silver medal in the relay event. Zaferes was the opening leg for the Americans and finished her leg in first place. She leaves Tokyo with two medals becoming the first Syracuse athlete to win multiple medals since 1920.

Hattie Taylor helped the Great Britain women’s fours boat earn their way back into the grand final. They ended up finishing fourth in the final after winning the repecharge race

4th onwards and upwards! Thankyou to everybody who helped me get to the start line and to my crew mates for getting me down the course. Couldn’t have done it without any of ya @CuseWRowing @Cuse @SWPSRowing @BritishRowing @TeamGB pic.twitter.com/jCs04KsqAU

Kayla Alexander scored 10 points in Canada’s win over South Korea but didn’t score in just four minutes of action in their loss to Spain. Canada has to wait to see if they will advance to the quarterfinal round.

Jerami Grant and the US Men’s Basketball team will take on Spain in the quarterfinals. Grant only played four minutes in USA”s 119-84 win over the Czech Republic over the weekend. He contributed two rebounds, an assist and a steal in that game and in the previous win over Iran Jerami had four points, three rebounds and two assists.

Justyn Knight will take to the track on Tuesday night in Tokyo for the opening round of the men’s 5000m run. That means it’ll be 7:00 am in Syracuse when the first heat begins so set your alarms. We’ll have more recaps (and hopefully more medals to report) this week.
