Gait discusses the evolution of his signature Air Gait move
Syracuse Orange Men’s Lacrosse Head Coach Gary Gait will be a guest on this week’s episode of “Rabil’s Places”.
The show, which will debut today on ESPN+, features Gait sitting down with host Paul Rabil to talk about the signature “Air Gait” move. The lacrosse legends sat down at Syracuse to discuss how Gait developed the move.
It was during the 1988 season when Gait tried coming from X to dive in front of the goal and surprise the goalie. He missed that one and realized it would be a lot easier to score if he came over the top. It was that idea which Gait worked on and then decided he’d unveil in a NCAA Tournament Semifinal game.
Unfortunately the NCAA in the 80s was a lot like the current NCAA and didn’t like fun things, so it banned the Air Gait. Rabil and Gait also discussed the tradition of the #22 jersey at Syracuse and Gait shared that his first season he wore #38 and let’s be honest that number just doesn’t have the same aura of 22.

You can check out the full episode, which also includes Charlotte North and Pat Spencer, when it launches today on ESPN+.
