One of the top targets in the portal

Syracuse Orange staff has expressed interest in North Dakota transfer Treysen Eaglestaff, per Joe Tipton of On3.

North Dakota transfer guard Treysen Eaglestaff (@TreysenE), one of the top players in the portal, has received interest from the following schools, per his agent @GeorgeLangberg of GSL Sports Group:

Kentucky
Michigan
St. John’s
Kansas
LSU
Alabama
Mississippi State

The Orange are one of many high-major programs involved, not a surprise, given Eaglestaff’s standing as one of the top scorers in college basketball. The Bismarck, ND native averaged 18.9 points per game for his home-state school in 2024-25 as a junior, shooting 41.6% from the field and 35.9% from three.

In December, Eaglestaff scored 40 points against Alabama on national TV, in a game that turned him into a national name in college basketball.

North Dakota 6’7 junior guard Treysen Eaglestaff was fantastic tonight versus #6 Alabama:

Today he had:

40 PTS
3 rebounds
15/30 FG
8/18 3PT
35 minutes

6’7 scored at all 3 levels today, hit some ridiculous, tough shots that helped North Dakota to almost upset Alabama… https://t.co/jzw0Hhk6k1 pic.twitter.com/1w05w2r2oo

In the Summit League Tournament, Eaglestaff dropped 51 points to lead the Fighting Hawks to an upset win over third-seeded South Dakota State in the quarterfinals.

North Dakota’s Treysen Eaglestaff had a special performance tonight to lead ND to the win

51 points
4 boards
4 assists
2 steals
15-28 FG
8-18 3P
13-17 FT

51 points at the division one level!! He’s now the only player in all of D1 to score more then 40 points twice this season… pic.twitter.com/IZS7IDbGjt

Eaglestaff has always been a gifted scorer, but shifted into UND’s primary ball-handling option as well this year, allowing him to be the primary operator out of ball screens. He went from 124 ball screen possessions to 340, and he ranked in the 57th percentile in efficiency on those ball screens.

Before the season, I wondered if Eaglestaff could become this year’s version of Frankie Fidler, who averaged 20 points per game in the Summit League for Omaha before transferring to Michigan State. While Fidler was a little underwhelming for MSU, I think Eaglestaff’s game is probably better suited to the high-major level in terms of his shot creation and shotmaking abilities.

It would be extremely hard for Syracuse to land him, contested by programs like Kentucky, Kansas, and Alabama, but the Orange have to do their due diligence.
