SU’s sole Class of 2021 recruit has found a new home.
A former Syracuse Orange men’s basketball team forward from this past season determined his next location after being dismissed from the program in February.
Benny Williams, who played 77 games across three seasons with the Orange, announced on Sunday night via Instagram that he will be committing to the University of Central Florida Knights.
Williams, who began his collegiate career rated as a four-star prospect by 247Sports and On3, started 24 games in 2022-23 but faced a 2023-24 season marred by an early-season suspension and an eventual dismissal from the program during the middle of the year.
Williams peaked during his sophomore year, averaging 7.2 points and 4.1 rebounds in 22.3 minutes per game. He concluded his time with the Orange averaging 4.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, 0.7 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.4 blocks in less than 17 minutes per game.
Williams is now the second Syracuse player from this past season to enter the transfer portal and commit to a new program for 2024-25. Earlier on Sunday, former Syracuse center Peter Carey announced he was transferring to Siena. Maliq Brown, Justin Taylor and Quadir Copeland also currently remain in the transfer portal.
We wish Benny all the best as he embraces a fresh start with UCF.
