Welcome to #WaiverSzn
The Syracuse Orange men’s basketball was expected to undergo a significant overhaul after the disappointing 24-25 season.
What we didn’t expect was that Eddie Lampkin and Lucas Taylor would be entering the transfer portal. It appears that both players have exhausted their eligibility, but yet they are in the portal.
Syracuse center Eddie Lampkin has entered the transfer portal as a grad transfer, @On3sports has learned.
The 6-11 center and former TCU and Colorado transfer averaged 11.5ppg and 9.6 rebounds this season. https://t.co/uOWMfDRMry pic.twitter.com/tIlxQkzB6j

According to this story from Donna Ditota, Lampkin will seek a waiver for his first season at TCU where he played just 10 games. Lampkin would be seeking a 6th season and with center earning seven-figure deal it’s certainly worth a shot.
He’s joined by Lucas Taylor who has played four seasons at Wake Forest, Georgia State and Syracuse. Taylor will need a waiver, but his situation could be different than Lampkin’s. There is a strong sense that the NCAA will approve five years of eligibility this summer and that the extra year will apply moving forward.
If that’s the case, it’s likely that someone in Taylor’s situation will sue the NCAA like Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia successfully did. The way the NCAA has been losing court cases like Patrick Ewing’s squad, it would stand to reason that anyone who played their 4th season in 24-25 could get another year. If this occurs along with the increase in scholarships, then player like Taylor could find themselves with opportunities this summer.
It wouldn’t seem likely that either player would return to Syracuse, but in college athletics these days, never say never.
