Let’s hit the Thruway next October
As the Syracuse Orange men’s basketball look to get their new roster acclimated and ready for a return to the NCAA Tournament, a potential NCAA rule change could open up an interesting opportunity.

The NCAA will allow schools to play up to 2 intrasquad scrimmages at an off campus location in addition to 2 exhibition games vs NCAA affiliated schools (including D1)

Last year Syracuse hosted a scrimmage in Rochester for the men’s and women’s programs and if they can play a 2nd one next Fall, then they should do it in Albany.
Since Gerry McNamara was named the Head Coach for Siena, Syracuse fans have speculated that the Orange and Saints would face off in the JMA Dome. It might be too soon for that game, but why not have Syracuse and Siena play intrasquad scrimmages in Albany’s MVP Arena?
It’s a good opportunity for Syracuse fans in the Capital Region to get a look at the new Orange and also give G-Mac a nice boost to the start of his head coaching career. This would allow the schools to avoid a head-to-head game in the first year, but still give fans a chance to see the Orange and G-Mac in the same building in 24-25.
We don’t handle logistics here in the TNIAAM Marketing department, but it seems like the two schools could find a way to split any ticket revenue from the event and generate some ticket sales for the regular season.
