Syracuse MBB offers top recruit in 2023 class

The Orange continue to aim high on the recruiting trail

The Syracuse Orange hosted an elite prospects camp over the weekend and Jim Boeheim and his coaching staff made sure several players left the Melo Center with scholarship offers. Even with the lost commitment of Kamari Lands last week Jim Boeheim isn’t going to stop chasing top-tier talent.

One of the Syracuse 2023 offers went to Camden star Dajuan Wagner Jr.- the number one recruit in the country. While many early prognosticators have Wagner headed to Kentucky the Orange are taking their shot at landing the talented point guard. It might seem to be a lock that Wagner would play for John Calipari like his father did but Syracuse made him the 5th player in 247’s top 40 of 2023 that they’ve offered.

Syracuse also extended offers to three other Class of 2023 recruits over the weekend. Papa Kante is an unranked 6-foot-10 forward from South Kent (Conn.) Prep with offers from Pitt, Rutgers and UMass. Reid Ducharme is an unranked 6-6 shooting guard at Brewster Academy with offers from UMass and Stanford. Joseph Estrella, a 6-8 forward from South Portland (Maine) High School received the other weekend offer.

The Orange continue to try and chase the talent to get back to the Final Four (perhaps without being a double-digit seed this time). And while it’s too soon to predict which current players will still be around in two years, it’s clear that Syracuse is trying to cast a wide net.
