You ask, we answer
The topic of Syracuse Orange football scheduling is always a hot topic around here. With news of the kickoff time for Syracuse’s game in South Bend released this week, Cnytommy asked:
“Would like to see a breakdown of how many times each ACC school has had to play ND in football the last 11-12 years, I bet we’re up there. I don’t mind SU playing them but it sure does seem like a lot.”
Well we love diving into schedule talk here so using Sports Reference and FBS Schedules, this is what I came up with for games played from 2015-2024 and those scheduled for 2025-2030 (excluding 2020 when ND played an ACC schedule).
H=Notre Dame home game A= Notre Dame is the visiting team
- BC (7)- 2015 (N), 2017 (A), 2019 (H), 2022 (H), 2025 (A), 2028 (H), 2030 (A)
- Cal (0)
- Clemson (7) – 2015 (A), 2022 (H), 2023 (A), 2027 (A), 2028 (H), 2029 (A), 2030 (H)
- Duke (4) – 2016 (H), 2019 (A), 2023 (A), 2030 (H)
- Florida St (6)- 2018 (H), 2021 (A), 2024 (H), 2026 (A), 2029 (A), 2030 (H)
- Georgia Tech (5) – 2015 (H), 2021 (H), 2024 (N), 2027 (H), 2029 (H)
- Louisville (4) – 2019 (A), 2023 (A), 2024 (H), 2030 (A)
- Miami (5) – 2016 (H), 2017 (A), 2025 (A), 2026 (H), 2028 (H)
- UNC (5) – 2017(A), 2021 (H), 2022 (A), 2026 (A), 2030 (H)
- NC State (5) – 2016 (A), 2017 (H), 2023 (A), 2025 (H), 2029 (A)
- Pitt (5) – 2015 (A), 2018 (H), 2023 (H), 2025 (A), 2028 (A)
- SMU (1) – 2026 (H)
- Stanford (2) – 2024 (H), 2025 (A)
- Syracuse (6) – 2016 (N), 2018 (N), 2022 (A), 2025 (H), 2026 (A), 2029 (A)
- Virginia (3) – 2015 (A), 2019 (H), 2024 (H)
- Virginia Tech (6) – 2016 (H), 2018 (A), 2019 (H), 2021 (A), 2027 (H), 2028 (A)
- Wake Forest (6) – 2015 (H), 2017 (H), 2018 (A), 2023 (H), 2027 (A), 2029 (H)
Note: I didn’t include Stanford/Cal/SMU games prior to them joining the ACC since those were not part of this arrangement.
Syracuse has been a frequent opponent for the Irish, but they are among a group of schools with a similar number of games. For all the concern about “giving up home games”, the Orange are at least listed to host Notre Dame in two of the next three meetings. Of course, we’ll see if that’s the case.
It was noticeable to me that Georgia Tech hasn’t hosted Notre Dame, but Louisville has gotten the Irish to come to their stadium three out of the four times they’re scheduled to meet. Do they not have a Notre Dame alumni group in Atlanta?
We should also note that the Clemson-ND schedule series will not impact the Irish’s ACC arrangement.
ACC commish Jim Phillips said the recent Clemson-Notre Dame annual series the schools added does not count toward the 5 games the Irish must play annually against ACC teams each year

Do you think Syracuse will move one of the upcoming Notre Dame games to a neutral site? If so, do you think it will be New York? Dublin? Dubai?
