As the Syracuse Orange continue spring practice, HC Fran Brown hopes to hear back from the NCAA about the proposed trip to face the Colorado Buffaloes in April.

Brown told On3’s Pete Nakos that an answer could come this week.

“I’m just waiting on the NCAA to come back to allow us to do this, so this could be huge for college football,” Brown told Nakos. “So people are being able to do this and having this opportunity, I think this will help us a lot. They should get back to us by the end of this week.”

Brown and Deion Sanders have both lobbied publicly for the schools to be allowed to hold joint practices along with a scrimmage as part of the spring practice schedule. If approved, the Orange would head to Boulder for a few days culminating in a scrimmage against the Buffaloes on April 19th.

While some fans worry about injuries occurring, Brown thinks it will benefit his players and college football.

“It will help the game,” Brown said of teams holding joint practices every spring. “Nobody wants to have spring games anymore. Nobody wants to worry about the portal. …I’m just confident in who I am and what i do for the players.”

Facing off with Deion’s squad will certainly capture attention of the college football world. It’s great exposure for the Syracuse program and after last season’s on-field success, Brown knows that visibility helps him continue to recruit and retain talented players.

We don’t know if approval would change the scheduled April 12th event in the JMA Dome, but it would seem as though Syracuse would still hold an open practice session for fans to see the Orange.

We’ll keep you updated on this as more news is released.
