The NCAA could determine if the Orange need another kicker for 2025
The Syracuse Orange thought they had their place-kicking situation settled for 2025, but now the position is in flux.
Jackson Kennedy took over the kicking duties last season for the Orange and we thought he had another season of eligibility for 2025. It turns out that the NCAA considers his year with the Cornell sprint football team to count and now Syracuse is left making an appeal.
“We’re waiting on approval from the NCAA for him to play,” Syracuse coach Fran Brown said. “It was denied, the extra year. So he doesn’t have an extra year yet, so those guys have been kicking.”
Last season, Kennedy was 8-11 on field goals with a long of 49 yards and he made 25-26 extra point attempts. He took over the job after both Brady Denaburg (3-6) and Jadyn Oh (2-5) struggled with field-goal attempts. Now a season playing for the under 178 pound sprint football Big Red could keep him from a second year with Syracuse.
If Kennedy is denied his appeal, Oh and Iowa transfer Tripp Woody would be the players next in line. Each player went 1-2 on kicks in Saturday’s spring scrimmage, so if Kennedy doesn’t get the eligibility restored, it’s possible that Syracuse will be in the market for another kicker.
