At home in the Dome
Now that the NFL Draft is over, we’ll look at the former Syracuse Orange to see how they fit in their new homes.
Next up is defensive end/linebacker Fadil Diggs drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the 7th round with the 254th pick in the Draft.
Despite being a late-round pick, Diggs is slotted onto the two-deep at weakside linebacker behind Carl Granderson. The Saints are a team in a rebuild phase, but Diggs will have veterans Cameron Jordan and Tyrann Mathieu to help him acclimate to the NFL. With his speed and ability to get to the quarterback, look for Diggs to feature on passing downs and special teams next year in New Orleans.
His path to consistent playing time will hinge on his ability to use his speed and athleticism in coverage as well as attacking the line of scrimmage. We saw Diggs play off the line last fall, but he was not featured in coverage often. It looks like New Orleans could be an outstanding spot for Diggs as they transition to a new defense and look for young players to be contributors.
