Oh they didn’t include Riley Dixon either…
It’s summer so news outlets are stretching for content and nothing gets Syracuse Orange fans fired up more than snubbing our athletes or teams and The Athletic has obliged.
Yesterday they released a list of the 25 best college football players since 2000 and they have ignored Dwight Freeney. Let that sink in a minute, people who have watched college football for the last 25 years don’t think either player belongs on this list.
How do you have a list without Dwight Freeney on it? The College Football Hall of Famer had a season for the ages in 2001. He was a unanimous First Team All-American, a finalist for the Bednarik, Lombardi and Nagurski awards, co-Big East Defensive Player of the Year and he finished ninth in 2001 Heisman Trophy voting. Freeney recorded 17.5 sacks and had 8 forced fumbles as he led the Orange to a 10-win season.
While excluding Freeney, The Athletic included the following defensive players:
24. Tyrann Mathieu- LSU
22. Sean Taylor- Miami
20. Aaron Donald-Pitt
19. Julius Peppers-UNC
18. Roy Williams-Oklahoma
16. Chase Young-Ohio State
10. Terrell Suggs-Arizona State
9. Travis Hunter- Colorado
6. Ed Reed- Miami
3. Ndamukong Suh- Nebraska
Chase Young? Shocking that these clowns didn’t put both Bosas and Aidan Hutchinson on here too. What a complete farce of a list and we’re too outraged to get into the lack of respect shown to Riley Dixon….
