Get your own authentic 44 jersey
Syracuse Orange fans have an opportunity to own a unique piece of history during a current Lelands auction.
Currently up for bid until June 29th is a game-worn Ernie Davis Syracuse jersey from the 1960-61 season, which is described by the auction house this way:
Syracuse road football jersey worn by legendary running back Ernie Davis during the circa 1960-61 season. Graded a perfect A10 by MEARS. This is an outstanding Ernie Davis jersey in all respects, and one of the finest we have ever offered. The white Dureen jersey features the number 44 on the front and reverse in navy tackle twill with orange stitching. A Wilson 48 label is located on the left front tail. As one might expect, the jersey displays considerable wear, including a team repair on the front, several small unrepaired tears and gouges, stains from both field dirt and sweat, loose threads, and paint transfers. Original as issued, with no alterations.
During the 1960 season the junior running back ran the ball 112 times for 877 yards (a career best 7,8 yards per carry) and 8 touchdowns. Davis also caught 11 passes for 141 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Orange finished 7-2 on the season and ended up ranked 19th in the AP poll.
Maybe the winning bidder will allow this piece of Syracuse history to be displayed in a prominent location for future Orange generations to enjoy.
