Tommy Cutlets is back for year three in the Meadowlands

Syracuse Orange fans living in the City could be seeing a familiar face just across the Hudson.

Tommy DeVito, who played for SU from 2018-2021, has re-signed with the New York Giants. NorthJersey.com’s Art Stapleton had the news first.

Because DeVito was a free agent with only two years of NFL experience, he was subject to the league’s ERFA rules. The Giants had the choice to sign him to a one-year contract – called a qualifying offer – at the positional minimum salary. For a QB entering his third year, that figure is $1.03 million.

I’m told Tommy DeVito will sign his exclusive rights free agent (ERFA) tender at some point this weekend, per sources.
So the Giants will officially have one quarterback on their roster as Joe Schoen has suggested when the NFL negotiating period of free agency begins Monday.

DeVito started two games for the G-Men in 2024, completing 31/44 passes for 257 yards and rushing eight times for 32 yards. He had no TDs or INTs and was sacked six times. DeVito dealt with multiple injuries, including a concussion, that kept him sidelined for much of the season’s second half.

2023 was far more impressive: Tommy won three games as a starter, threw for over a thousand yards with eight touchdowns, and earned the ‘Cutlets’ nickname thanks to his signature Italian celebration and family’s tailgating habits.

He is currently the only quarterback on the Giants’ roster, with former starter Daniel Jones long gone, and Drew Lock and Tim Boyle both free agents as well. New York has the 3rd overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft and could target one of the top QBs available in the class – namely Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders.

It’s unlikely that DeVito will be at the top of the Giants’ depth chart early on in the season, but he’s familiar and very affordable depth to have on a retooling team.
