Syracuse’s cut was on brand

In the constant shifting landscape of college athletics, Syracuse Orange fans are rightfully worried about where the Orange might land when the next big shift happens.

Last week we learned that the ACC was a solid #3 behind the SEC and Big Ten when it comes to conference revenue. According to tax filings, the ACC brought in $711 million during the 23-24 academic year, which eases some fears of impending upheaval. ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips might be a bit too optimistic about the league’s stability, but you can understand why the man in charge might feel this way about the current position.

“I just think you’ve got to settle down,” Phillips said. “I think college athletics needs to settle down, not just the ACC. I think we’ve positioned ourselves for that. The chaos and constant wondering of what’s happening here or there, that distracts from the business at hand. I feel good about where we’re at, and while I do take things one day at a time, I think there’s a period of time where let’s settle in and get things done.”

According to the tax filing, Syracuse received $44,696,708 in revenue from the , which put the Orange ahead of seven ACC schools. Clemson and North Carolina were the only schools above $46 million in 23-24. We’ll see how the addition of Cal, SMU and Stanford, along with the new distribution model, will impact the Orange’s ACC revenue moving forward, but success on the football field and hardwood is the best way to make sure that they can keep up with their conference mates.
