“Your path will not be a straight line”
On the same day when Carmelo Anthony told graduates that “their path would not be a straight line”, the Syracuse Orange men’s lacrosse team scaled out of a canyon to ascend above the Harvard Crimson.
The game was pretty one-sided for three quarters and it looked like a promising Syracuse season would end in another disappointing 1st-round loss. Then, the Orange rallied and took the lead in the final two minutes, only to stumble in the final seconds, yet rebound in overtime.

Was it closer than it needed to be? Sure. That’s been a theme of games in the JMA Dome all season. We saw it in football with rallies against Virginia Tech and Miami. The Orange were able to find the resolve to rebound from poor starts to pull off thrilling victories.
Even in this disappointing men’s basketball season, we saw the Orange rally from down 17 to defeat Notre Dame. Yes, it’s just a sliver of light in a dark season, but it’s ok for fans to enjoy the moments.
There is still more to come from men’s lacrosse, as well as the rowing and track teams before we close this Syracuse sports year. Are there more fun moments in store? Can we see some Orange athletes standing victorious at the top of the podium?
That’s why we keep coming back and watching. To see what these athletes can do under the pressure of championship competition.
We’ll let Melo sum it up as he told the Class of 2025 “The Orange spirit is real….it’s loyalty, it’s heart…” and that heart was often on display in the JMA Dome all season.
