SU Top 100: #61 Alexis Peterson

August 1, 2020 by Orange Fizz Leave a Comment

Our list of the Top 100 SU athletes continues with a woman who could flat out score.

You can find the Fizz’s SU Top 100 list here. Make sure you keep checking in to see who made the list and where they are ranked!

From Columbus, Ohio, Alexis Peterson became one of the most gifted scorers in SU Women’s Basketball history. In High School, she became a highly-touted prospect, ranked 92nd in the 2013 class. She was a three-time all-state honoree in her home state and was named to Ohio’s first-team in 2012 and 2013. She surpassed 2,000 points at Northland High School and led her team to an 87-14 record in her four years. In her senior season, she averaged 28.6 PPG, 5.4 RPG, 5.1  APG, and a staggering 4.2 SPG. By the time she got to Syracuse, she was an incredibly well-rounded player and it showed.

She played in all but one game her freshman season, though her stats weren’t incredibly impressive. It was her sophomore season when she started to open the eyes of the fans and the media. She started every single game for the orange after her freshman year and did not disappoint. In her junior season, Syracuse Women’s Basketball had its best season in program history, reaching the National Championship, only to fall to UCONN.

Peterson went down in history as an incredible scorer, one of the best Syracuse has ever had. In her senior season, she averaged 23 PPG, also being rewarded with numerous accolades. She was named to the WBCA Division I Coaches All-America Team, Associated Press All-America Second Team, and was an espnW All-America Honorable Mention. She was Blue Ribbon Panel Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year, which made her the first player in program history to collect a conference player of the year accolade.

There’s no doubt she deserves to be a part of this list, there’s even an argument that she should be higher, as one of the best players on the best SU Women’s Basketball team of all time.
