Columbia big man Patrick Tape is among the various Ivy League stars looking to jump up to the power conferences to finish his college career. Duke recently jumped in on Harvard forward Seth Towns, and is now also interested in Tape.
He is a 6-foot-10, 232-pound post player out of Charlotte. He elected to sit out this season to preserve eligibility for next year with another team. Last season, as a junior, Tape averaged 11.3 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.
On the year, he scored on exactly two-thirds of his attempts from the field. While that type of center is pretty out of vogue in the pro game, he can still be extremely effective in college. A number of major programs are interested in bringing him in, and he’s had an extended transfer recruitment since he announced his intention to leave so early.
Ohio State, Syracuse, and USC have all been involved for a while. Now, Duke has jumped into the fray. The Blue Devils will probably lose at least a few stars to the NBA Draft, including Vernon Carey. The team also has a number of senior graduates freeing up scholarships.
Columbia grad transfer Patrick Tape tells me he’s now receiving interest from Duke.
Also considering USC, Syracuse, and Ohio State.
Immediately eligible.

Seth Towns has already narrowed his list to Duke and Ohio State. It didn’t take long for Coach K to go from expressing interest to a finalist in that race.
We’ll see if the same goes for Patrick Tape’s recruitment. Because it has been a longer process, some of the other schools may still have a leg up, but an offer from Duke is historically one that players have had a very difficult time turning down.
The transfer portal is about as packed as it has ever been. We’ll see a ton of movement over the next few weeks.
