Ryan Day Has Classy Message For Ex-Ohio State Quarterback Kyle McCord

September 12, 2024 by The Spun

J.D. Vance Has A Message For Ohio State Coach Ryan Day (1:01)

There were good times and tough times for Kyle McCord while he was the starting quarterback at Ohio State but after one year as a starter he transferred to Syracuse, where he’s currently thriving.

Through two weeks McCord has the Orange at 2-0 and coming off an upset win over Georgia Tech. Even more impressively, McCord currently leads the FBS in touchdown passes with eight while leading the ACC in passing yards.

On Tuesday, Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day spoke about McCord and said he’s “happy” to see McCord enjoying success with the Orange. Per Buckeyes insider Chase Brown, Day said that McCord “poured a lot into” his program during his three years in his program.

As a junior in 2023, McCord started all 12 regular season games, throwing for 3,170 yards and 24 touchdowns with just six interceptions. He led the Big Ten in yards per attempt and yards per completion while throwing to his favorite target and longtime friend, Marvin Harrison Jr.

But despite starting the season 11-0, he couldn’t lead the Buckeyes to victory over arch-rival Michigan, which cost the Buckeyes won the Big Ten title and a trip to the College Football Playoff.

McCord wound up transferring before Ohio State could play in the Cotton Bowl, where they lost 14-3.

The Buckeyes have transitioned nicely to Will Howard as their starter.

If McCord continues to play this well for the Orange though, there’s a small chance that the two could cross paths somewhere down the road – in the College Football Playoff.
