Duce Chestnut – Corner Back
Chestnut would be Syracuse’s top commit if he eventually ended up in Orange. The Camden, New Jersey native is the top cornerback in New Jersey and just outside of the top-300 nationally.
The latest film on Hudl is from Chestnut’s freshman season, so there’s not much to glean from it. However, at 5-11 he has the size to hang with bigger receivers. Right now, Syracuse is battling blue-blood programs to land Chestnut, always the best sign to a players potential.
Oronde Gadsden II – Wide Receiver
At 6-foot-4, Gadsden is a big body receiver in a similar mold to previous ‘X’ receivers for the Orange. Dino Babers loves to let these guys run on the outside and go up and make plays on contested throws. While Trishton Jackson filled this role last season, at 6-foot-1, he was smaller than the prototypical Babers receiver.
Gadsden’s highlights show his ability to be a red zone threat. Right now his best skill set seems to be his ability to win 50-50 balls, using his height and weight to his advantage against smaller defenders. It’ll be interesting to see how he plays against tighter defenses in college, but he can go up and make tough grabs.
Besides Syracuse, Gadsden is being recruited by Georgia Tech, UCF and USF. Gadsden is from Fort Lauderdale, Florida but Syracuse has shown an ability to recruit Florida very well. For example, check out this guy named Andre Cisco who’s pretty good.
Enrique Cruz – Offensive Line
At 6-foot-5 and 252 pounds, Cruz has the size and the frame to continue to fill out. Right now he is also considering Arizona and Arizona State heavily. Like other recruits, Cruz has been taking road trips to check out schools he’s interested in. While the schools have been closed, hence no official visit, recruits can look around and check out the campus.
Apparently Cruz has already driven to Syracuse on an east coast swing according to 247sports.com, and is planning to check out west coast schools. SU was the first power-five school to offer Cruz, and has been a top program for Cruz ever since.
