Following Syracuse’s 89-79 loss to Georgetown this afternoon, head coach Jim Boeheim dropped arguably the quote of the weekend. However, the legendary coach may have crossed the line with his recent comments.
This season has been stressful for Boeheim, who is currently leading a 5-5 team. Today’s loss to the Hoyas just adds to the Orange’s shortcomings this winter.
During his postgame press conference, Boeheim addressed why Georgetown had success against Syracuse. In the process of complimenting his opponent he took a shot at James Akinjo.
Georgetown is playing without the sophomore guard because he’s entered the NCAA transfer portal. Many people regard Akinjo as the top transfer on the market, but clearly Boeheim isn’t fond of his playing style.
Boeheim believes Akinjo hurt the Hoyas by constantly shooting.
“The other guy was throwing the ball up all the time,” Boeheim said. “He lost two games by himself. Patrick (Ewing) can’t say that but I can.”
More Boeheim on Akinjo: “the other guy was throwing the ball up all the time. He lost two games by himself. Patrick can’t say that but I can.”
“They way they were playing earlier in the year, we would have won.
Seems unlikely Akinjo ends up at Syracuse.

Well, it’s safe to say the Orange won’t have any interest in adding Akinjo to its roster for the 2020-21 season.
Players on the Hoyas might not be thrilled with Boeheim’s comments, but they did get the last laugh anyway with a statement win today.
As for Boeheim, he’ll try to lead Syracuse to a victory next Wednesday against Oakland.
