The top-40 tight end prospect who could sneak his way onto the field.

It’s time to start preparing for the 2024 Syracuse Orange football season. We’re going through the roster to take a look at each Syracuse player as we get to know a lot of new faces to kick off the Fran Brown Era.

Next up is…

Name: Elijah Washington-Baker

Position: Tight End

Year: Freshman

Height: 6’7”

Weight: 230 lbs

Hometown: Norfolk (VA)

High School/Previous College: Lake Taylor High School

2023 stats: Had 50 receptions for 947 yards (over 18 yards per catch) last year as TE. Also saw time at linebacker, where he recorded 106 tackles, 12.5 sacks and 11 blocked passes.

2024 projections: Syracuse already boasts a strong tight end trio (Gadsden, Villari and Tremble), but is there a chance Washington-Baker can still see some playing time? Absolutely. As Max and Mike pointed out in a recent exercise, there’s a path where he can contribute. The 6-7 size and general versatility makes him a legit athlete who proved to be a big-yard producer in HS.

How’d he get here?: Committed to the Orange in December 2023 over offers from West Virginia, Virginia, and Rutgers among others.

What’d recruiting sites say?: Three-stars all around and ranked as a top-40 tight end in the class of 2024 by ESPN.

Interesting nugget o’interest: Outside of being a four-time football team captain, Washington-Baker stood out as a three-sport high school athlete. He played four positions in baseball and was named Eastern District Player of the Year plus earned a first-team All-State nod as a power forward on the basketball team. He averaged a ridiculous 15 points, 14.5 rebounds and 4.5 blocks. He also notched a 28-point, 19-rebound performance in a state semifinal game.

Let’s get a look at ya: Rolling the tape from commitment day:
