The trenches get some reinforcements from Boulder
It’s time to start preparing for the 2024 Syracuse Orange football season. We’re going through the roster to take a look at each Syracuse player as we get to know a lot of new faces to kick off the Fran Brown Era.
Next up is…
Name: Savion Washington
Position: Offensive Line
Year: Redshirt Junior
Height: 6’8”
Weight: 340 lbs.
Hometown: Akron, OH
High School: St. Vincent-St. Mary
Previous School: Colorado/Kent State
2023 stats: Played ten games with nine starts at right tackle for Colorado.
2024 projections: How will Washington slot into the offensive line? Syracuse went through spring practice without him. The big tackle with starting experience certainly deserves consideration as a starter, and given Fran Brown’s comments during his pre-training camp press conference, Washington should be a candidate to be one of the five big men protecting Kyle McCord.
How’d he get here?: Washington entered the portal on April 15 and committed to Syracuse on April 23. He fielded offers from Baylor, Rutgers and Texas A&M before joining the Orange.
What’d recruiting sites say?: Four stars in the transfer portal by On3. Out of high school, three stars by 247sports and ESPN, two stars by Rivals.
Money Quote: Washington’s former head coach Deion Sanders had high praise for the tackle during last season (via George M. Thomas/Akron Beacon Journal)
“That kid is tough – mentally, physically. He’s a dog. He’s a future pro. He’s one of the kids – I love all of them – but he’s one of the kids I’m very fond of and I love his story and I just love what he represents for us.”

Interesting nugget o’interest: Does St. Vincent-St. Mary sound familiar? Yup, that’s the high school LeBron James went to, much like Washington.
