Bringing German flavor to the Orange o-line
It’s time to start preparing for the 2024 Syracuse Orange football season. We’re going through the roster to take a look at each Syracuse player as we get to know a lot of new faces to kick off the Fran Brown Era.
Next up is…
Name: Mark Petry
Position: Offensive line
Year: Redshirt Senior
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 292 lbs
Hometown: Hochheim am Main, Germany
High School/Previous College: Graf-Stauffenberg-Gymnasium/Ellsworth Community College
2023 stats: Started 11 games at right tackle and appeared in every contest. Petry allowed three sacks and a quarterback hit in 758 offensive snaps.
2024 projections: The big fella will have to hold off some new transfers to see starting action at the right tackle spot if David Wohlabaugh Jr. isn’t 100% by Week 1. If Wohlabaugh is ready to play, expect Petry to be the next man up if a lineman goes down with an injury.
How’d he get here?: Played one season at Ellsworth CC in Iowa before moving to the Orange. He was initially committed to Eastern Michigan before de-committing for SU. Chose Syracuse over other offers from UMass, Chattanooga and Jacksonville State.
What’d recruiting sites say?: Two stars from 247Sports, ESPN and rivals.com. He was the #34 offensive tackle recruit in the 247Sports JUCO rankings.

Interesting nugget o’interest: Petry’s favorite sport outside of football is soccer, where he roots for Arsenal in the English Premier League and his hometown FSV Mainz 05 in the German Bundesliga.
Let’s get a look at ya:
The senior is quite the content creator and jokester off the gridiron. In his latest edit, he had a little fun with The Blindside movie and his carry during the spring game.
