NCAA Football: Syracuse at Pittsburgh

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Canada’s College Team adds some size on the outside

Name: Damien Alford

Position: Wide Receiver

Year: Freshman

Height: 6’5”

Weight: 210 lbs.

Hometown: Montreal, Que.

High School: MacArthur

2019 stats: Played his senior year at MacArthur HS in Florida. Alford had 26 receptions for 590 yards and 10 touchdowns.

2020 projections: The Syracuse Orange have a spot available for an outside receiver opposite Taj Harris. Alford’s size makes him an intriguing prospect but his delay in getting to campus probably means he won’t see meaningful snaps this season.

How’d he get here?: After heading south for his senior year Alford had offers from Miami, Oklahoma, Florida and Georgia among others.

What’d recruiting sites say?: Three stars all around.

Money quote: Let’s hope that a lot of talented Canadian players hear this message loud and clear

““For all the Canadians chase your dream. Nothing’s impossible and if you work hard you can be in the same situation I’m in right now.”

What movie would Dino recommend for him?: Going with The Omen here. The 1976 thriller starring Gregory Peck will have Dino telling this Damien that he wants to be delivering bad outcomes to opposing defensive backs.

Interesting nugget o’interest: Damien went to Florida and was able to reclassify to the 2020 class. He’s already 19 and could be physically ready to contribute later this fall if he can get caught up when he finally gets to campus.

Let’s get a look at ya: Here’s a look at Alford using his size to catch a pass over two defenders.
