Reinforcements in the secondary
It’s time to start preparing for the 2025 Syracuse Orange football season. We’re going through the roster to take a look at each Syracuse player as we get to know a lot of new faces for Year 2 of the Fran Brown Era.
Up next is…
Name: Marcus Washington Jr.
Position: Defensive Back
Year: Redshirt Junior
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 189 lbs.
Hometown: Grovetown, GA
High School/Previous College: Grovetown/Georgia/Louisville
2024 stats: Missed the entirety of last season due to injury
2025 projections: We don’t really know where Washington fits in the picture of the secondary due to the timing of his injury. Because of that, we don’t know if Washington is a part of the corners or safeties. Either way, given his physical attributes and previous college experience, he could battle for a starting position in the secondary.
How’d he get here?: Was originally part of the class of 2023 before reclassifying to the class of 2022. Played one year at Georgia and one year at Louisville before transferring to Syracuse in 2024.
What’d recruiting sites say?: Consensus three-star transfer. Consensus four-star recruit, consensus top-21 player at his position, and consensus top-20 player in the state.
Winners Get Washed: Bath & Body Works Loyal To You Body Wash – Given the Georgia roots, you can imagine there’s a good amount of loyalty between Washington and Fran Brown.

Interesting nugget o’interest: Washington’s father, Marcus Sr., played linebacker for Georgia from 2005-09.
