Get to Know Your Orange Man: #24, RB Cooper Lutz

July 14, 2020 by Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician Leave a Comment

Clemson v Syracuse

The redshirt sophomore has moved from WR to RB.

Name: Cooper Lutz

Position: Running Back

Year: (Redshirt) Sophomore

Height: 6’0”

Weight: 198 lbs.

Hometown: Reading, Pa.

High School: Berks Catholic

2019 stats: Coming off his redshirt season, Lutz didn’t see any action. He was still pegged as a wide receiver last season, and didn’t break through the depth chart there.

2020 projections: Lutz is now listed as a running back, the position he played in high school. He’ll be somewhere down the mix behind the combo of Abdul Adams and Jarveon Howard, but may be able to grab some snaps on special teams or in a flex role.

How’d he get here?: He had offers from Army, Navy, and Columbia as well. The Orange were the first offer and the only P5, and he stuck with it.

Money quote: After his injury his junior season of high school, Lutz worked his way back to receiving offers after missing a good chunk of that season —

“I’m just grateful,” he said. “You see that all the hard work is paying off. You work your butt off trying to get those first offers.”

What’d recruiting sites say?: Three stars from 247 and ESPN, two from Rivals.

Tweets of wonder: Lutz was teammates at Berks Catholic with current Pittsburgh linebacker Brandon George. With the switch to RB, there’s a chance the two could meet up head to head in the next few years.

Not bad for a few guys from Reading. Unbelievably proud of these boys. #GreatSaints pic.twitter.com/Oiwc3nNpwA

What movie would Dino recommend for him?: Bradley Cooper has been the go-to, and while he’s had plenty of great roles in his career to this point, he’s only played an anthropomorphic raccoon once, and that was 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy. If Lutz channels his inner Rocket Raccoon, who on the team ends up being Groot?

Interesting nugget o’interest: Keeping with the Lutz family ties for these, his uncle, Jared Sadlowski was a catcher for Penn State baseball in the mid-nineties. Combine that with his older brother, Isaac Lutz, a receiver at Penn State, and you’ve got some athletic talent in the family.
