The (presumptive) favorite to succeed McCord.
It’s time to start preparing for the 2025 Syracuse Orange football season. We’re going through the roster to take a look at each Syracuse player as we get to know a lot of new faces for Year 2 of the Fran Brown Era.
Up next is…
Name: Rickie Collins
Position: Quarterback
Year: Redshirt Sophomore
Height: 6’2”
Weight: N/A
Hometown: Baton Rouge, LA
High School/Previous College: Woodlawn High School/LSU
2024 stats: Appeared in three games with LSU against Nicholls, South Alabama and Arkansas. Went 5/5 on throws for 35 yards and ran four times for 18 yards.
2025 projections: Collins is certainly at the center of the biggest question facing the Orange heading into the offseason: who takes over at the quarterback spot in 2025? He transferred from LSU. In April, coach Fran Brown appeared to name him as the starter… and then the Orange landed former Notre Dame QB Steve Angeli in the portal. Based off the ACC Kickoff, there wasn’t a clear answer there (for now). All that said, Collins is certainly unproven but would bring more of a theoretical dual-threat play style if he emerges as the day-one starter.
How’d he get here?: Originally committed to LSU over offers from Florida State, Oregon, Nebraska, Louisville, Georgia Tech, Arkansas, Purdue and several other schools.
What’d recruiting sites say?: Consensus four-star; ranked 12th-best prospect in the state of Louisiana by 247Sports.
Winners Get Washed: Duke Cannon — “toughness, purpose, hard work and never putting the word salad next to bar.” The perfect grooming products for the potential main man under center.

Interesting nugget o’interest: Collins is part of a high school alumni list that has some familiar professional athletes, including multi-time Olympian Danielle Scott-Arruda and MLB pitcher Chad Durbin.
