Syracuse is seeking a new head football coach to replace Dino Babers. They’re reportedly eyeing a member of Georgia’s staff.
According to The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman, Georgia defensive backs coach Fran Brown is “the top target” for Syracuse’s job.
Brown, a New Jersey native, has Northeast coaching familiarity as a defensive backs coach at Temple and Rutgers. He also followed Matt Rhule to Baylor for two years before returning to the Owls for another season in 2019.

The Bulldogs have yet to lose a game since Brown’s arrival. They’ve limited opponents to just 176.5 passing yards per game this season with the fifth-fewest yards per attempt (5.63) in the FBS.
Syracuse fired Babers before he could conclude his eighth season. The 62-year-old made one of two bowl-game appearances last year and left the program with a 42-55 career record
Interim head coach Nunzio Campanile led the Orange to a 35-31 win over Wake Forest to end the regular season. Syracuse had previously lost six of seven games against ACC opponents following a 4-0 start in non-conference play.
Brown could be in play for his first head-coaching opportunity, but the 40-year-old must first focus on Saturday’s SEC Championship Game against Alabama. Georgia can extend its winning streak to 30 and compete for its third consecutive national title with a victory at Mercedez Benz-Stadium.
