On Thursday, the Syracuse Orange fell to the No. 1 seeded Duke Blue Devils 88-79 in a hard-fought ACC Tournament matchup.
Unfortunately for the underdog squad, Syracuse was without star three-point sniper/ACC scoring champion Buddy Boeheim for the entire contest. The son of head coach Jim Boeheim was suspended for a cheap shot he took on Florida State guard Wyatt Wilkes during the first half of yesterday’s win over the Seminoles.
There was no punishment for the foul during the game, but ACC official handed Boeheim a one-game suspension on Wednesday night.
Coach K shared his thoughts on the suspension after today’s game.
“I don’t fault anybody for their judgment,” he said. “I just wish that it would’ve been done in the confines of the game. Once it gets outside of the game, then the punishment has to be outside of the game, and that was very unfortunate.”
The Orange stuck around for the majority of the game and had the Blue Devils fully on upset alert. It’s hard not to think what could have been if the team’s leading scorer was out on the floor.
With today’s loss, this one-game suspension ultimately marked the end to Boeheim’s four-year collegiate career with Syracuse.
Duke is now set to face off against No. 4 seeded Miami in tomorrow’s semifinal matchup.
