After spending five seasons in the NFL, running back Damien Harris has decided to retire at the young age of 27.

Harris, a former third-round pick from Alabama, started his pro career with the New England Patriots. He rushed for 2,094 yards and 20 touchdowns from 2019-2022.

During the 2023 offseason, Harris signed a one-year contract with the Buffalo Bills. His campaign was cut short due to a neck injury he suffered in Week 6.

In just six games with the Bills, Harris had 94 rushing yards and a touchdown on 23 attempts. He also had two receptions for 16 yards.

On Monday night, Harris posted a heartfelt message on social media regarding his decision.

“The people I’ve met, the places I’ve been and will go on to go, the experiences and memories I’ve made, the impact I’ve been able to make to this point, these are the things that mean the most to me,” Harris said. “Gratitude is defined as ‘the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.’ Today I am grateful I have found strength to walk away from the game I love so much.”

In his letter, Harris said playing football will go down as “one of the greatest privileges of my life.”

We’re wishing Harris all the best as he enters the next chapter of his life.
