The NFL’s Competition Committee is responsible for reviewing all competitive aspects of the game, including playing rules, roster regulations, technology, game-day operations and player protection. This year, the committee will be adding two active head coaches to its ranks.
Per Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team, Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott and Los Angeles Rams head coach have joined the committee, which already features Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin and executives from five other NFL teams.
The committee chairman is Atlanta Falcons CEO Rich McKay. Other members of the committee include New York Giants CEO John Mara, Dallas Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones, Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier and Cincinnati Bengals executive Katie Blackburn.
NFL fans already have jokes about the addition of McDermott due to some complaints he might have about current NFL rules adversely affecting his Bills:
“Just what we needed. Add McDermott to the committee when he was already crying about rules any time the bills lost. I can see it now: “Going forward, when your QB fumbles near end of 4th qt, and the opp scores on ensuing drive, your team will automatically get another chance,'” one user replied.
“I know the Bills coach is gonna complain about Miami being too hot, (again) even though we played them in January at night,” wrote another.
“McDermott? Get ready for OT to change to a full 15 minute quarter to decide the game,” a third joked.
It’ll be interesting to see what kinds of changes get made by the Competition Committee this offseason.
