Tre'Davious White still undecided about playing 2020 season

August 6, 2020 by WGR 550 SportsRadio Leave a Comment

The Buffalo Bills have only had two players elect to take a voluntary opt-out for the 2020 season due to concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic. Those players are defensive tackle Star Lotulelei and cornerback E.J. Gaines.

However, one prominent defensive player did not give any clarity as to whether or not he would suit up this season in Orchard Park.

In a Zoom conference call with the Buffalo media on Wednesday, Bills cornerback Tre’Davious White said he was still undecided about playing out the 2020 season.

“Honestly, I’m still undecided. I’ve got until tomorrow, but I just wanted to come in and kind of see how it was going to go, how the season was going to go as far as moving around in the locker room, the day-to-day operation. Just talking it over with my ‘old lady’ and just seeing what would be the best decision for my kids too. That played a part in it, and just trying to see how them being up here, not being able to come to the games and move around, and my kids being able to go to school, and just being away from my family for such a long time without being able to do anything. So we’re kind of just taking it down to the last day, and we’re going to decide from there.”

The 25-year-old will have until 4 p.m. on Thursday to notify the team and the league in writing if he does elect to opt out of the 2020 season.

The Bills exercised their right to the fifth-year option on White’s rookie deal, which means he’s under contract for two more seasons. However, the 2017 first round pick will be in line for a huge payday soon. He was named a First-Team All-Pro and selected to his first Pro Bowl in 2019.

White said he’s in no rush to get a new deal done and doesn’t want to negotiate “out of desparation.”
