The Buffalo Bills have just over 24 hours to reduce their roster down from 80 players to 53. They got off to an early start on that task by releasing some players this morning.
On Monday, the Bills announced the release of three players. Running back Kerrith Whyte, wide receiver Brandon Powell, and cornerback Tim Harris have all been cut.
Whyte was a seventh-round pick by the Chicago Bears in the 2019 NFL Draft. He was waived before the season and played for the Pittsburgh Steelers as a rookie. Whyte had 24 carries for 122 yards in six games in 2019. He spent the 2020 season with the Detroit Lions, but did not play.
Powell went undrafted out of Florida in 2018 and signed with the Detroit Lions, starting one game as a rookie. His breakout performance came in Week 17 of that year, as he had six receptions for 103 yards against the Green Bay Packers. Last year he played for the Atlanta Falcons and had 12 receptions for 69 yards and two touchdowns.
Harris was a sixth-round pick by the San Francisco 49ers in 2020. He played in two games for the 49ers last year, totaling 18 snaps.

The Buffalo Bills roster for the 2021 season is already stacked. They rank among the Super Bowl favorites for this coming season after the big season they had.
The ensuing cuts are likely going to be difficult, but the team will probably wind up with an elite roster for the coming season.
