Tom Brady is no longer a New England Patriot and his 20 year run as the best quarterback in the AFC East is officially over.
The question now is who claims the title as the best QB in the division?
Brady’s replacement in New England is probably the answer you’re expecting to hear. But If you ask ESPN’s Mike Tannenbaum, the answer isn’t Cam Newton – it’s 38-year-old Ryan Fitzpatrick.
“You can certainly say that Ryan Fitzpatrick, just based on how those quarterbacks played last year, right now is the best quarterback in the division.”
Tannenbaum, formerly with the Dolphins as the teams Executive VP of Football Operations from 2015-2018, believes the AFC East is up for grabs and thinks if Fitzpatrick can play like he did at the end of last season, it gives Miami an advantage.
The Dolphins did select Tua Tagovailoa with the fifth overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft with hopes of the Alabama star becoming the teams future under center. Despite Tua being cleared for full practice, it is evident the 16 year veteran, Fitzpatrick, is the current favorite to start week 1 in New England.
