BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Bills quarterback Josh Allen has put himself at the forefront of the MVP conversation with his outstanding performance this NFL season. Raising his level of play after the departure of star receiver Stefon Diggs only enhances Allen’s candidacy.
And that star receiver has taken notice from afar.
“He definitely should win,” Diggs said Tuesday during an appearance on Good Morning Football. “He’s been balling.”
“Obviously, it’s no secret that Josh Allen is amazing,” Diggs added. “As far as seeing him game in and game out. He’s making those plays. It’s not new to me at all. It’s not new to nobody in the league.
“I feel like it’s just his respect kind of coming full circle, finally getting that credit that he deserves. He’s playing at a very high level. I feel like he deserves it.”
Diggs, who is on injured reserve after tearing his ACL in the eighth game of the Houston Texans season, echoed a social media comment he made when asked about Allen’s MVP case last week: “he should shorty ballin fr,” Diggs wrote.
Known for his cryptic tweets at times during his past stints with the Bills and Vikings, Diggs expressed a different sentiment in April the day before he was traded to the Texans. Responding on ESPN analyst Robert Griffin III’s post saying Diggs was not essential to Allen’s success, Diggs wrote, “you sure?”
Diggs made the Pro Bowl in all four seasons with Buffalo and was named first team All-Pro in 2020 after leading the league with 127 receptions and 1,535 receiving yards. When the Bills and Texans met in Week 5 this season, Diggs led all players with 82 receiving yards in the Texans’ 23-20 win.
Allen, the betting market favorite to win MVP, could become the third Bills player and first quarterback to win the award, following Thurman Thomas in 1991 and O.J. Simpson in 1973. Allen finished second in MVP voting in 2020, third in 2022 and fifth in 2023.
