Bills head coach Sean McDermott has dealt with a lot of backlash and questions this week from the public. It all stems from a lengthy article from Tyler Dunne of GoLongTD.com.
Dunne revealed that McDermott mentioned the 9/11 terrorists during a speech to his team during the 2019 season. On Thursday, McDermott faced the music.
“I’m gonna reference a team meeting that has been brought up. My intent in the meeting that day was to discuss the importance of communication and being on the same page on the team,” McDermott said. “I regretted mentioning 9/11 in my message that day and I immediately apologized to the team that day.”
Fast forward to Friday, and McDermott acknowledged Dunne’s article as a whole. He called it an “attack” on his character.
“It’s been disappointing. It’s been hurtful. At the end of the day, I know who I am. At the end of the day, I know how I handle myself,” McDermott said, via Matt Parrino of Syracuse.com. “As I’ve said, humbly, I’m not without flaws. I wake up every morning and try and do the best job that I can to win games for the fans of the Buffalo Bills and do it the right way. And that’s my main goal every day.”

The Bills have a must-win game on the schedule this Sunday against the Chiefs. Time will tell if all this noise surrounding McDermott ends up being a distraction.
