The Buffalo Bills may not have decided yet who their No. 1 receiver is for the 2024 NFL season will be. But while wideout may not be a position of strength right now, they’re making moves to ensure that star quarterback Josh Allen will at least stay upright.
According to Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz, the Bills are signing former Dallas Cowboys starting offensive tackle La’el Collins to a one-year deal. Collins was on the Cowboys’ practice squad at the start of the offseason after spending the last two seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Cowboys signed Collins as an undrafted free agent out of LSU and made him a starter on the offensive line in 2015. By 2017, he was the team’s starting right tackle and became part of an elite offensive tackle duo with Tyron Smith.
But much like Smith – who is now with the New York Jets – Collins has been hindered by numerous injuries and could not even play in a game during the 2023 season.
It remains to be seen what kind of role Collins will have on the Bills but the team’s clear priority is to surround him with as many starting-caliber offensive linemen as possible to ensure he stays healthy in an AFC East that is expected to be incredibly competitive once again.
Fans certainly seem convinced that the Bills will take a top wide receiver in the NFL Draft if they can get their hands on one. Signing a player like Collins will reinforce that belief.
